What a neurologist does

A neurologist deals with the brain, the spinal cord and the nerves: people come with frequent headaches and migraine, dizziness, numbness or tingling in the hands and feet, back pain that shoots down a leg, a tremor in the hands or memory problems. Neurologists do not operate: if spine or brain surgery is needed, they refer you to a neurosurgeon, and pain in a joint itself belongs with a traumatologist-orthopedist or a rheumatologist. Bring any MRI or CT scans with their reports and a headache diary: when an attack starts, how long it lasts and what comes before it.

Frequently asked questions

Is a neuropathologist the same as a neurologist?

Yes. In Armenia, “neuropathologist” is the older, Soviet-era name of the same specialty, and clinic websites still use it in job titles. Doctors whom a clinic calls neuropathologists are in this list too.

Who deals with the spine — a neurologist or a vertebrologist?

With back or neck pain that spreads to an arm or a leg, people usually start with a neurologist. The directory has no vertebrology specialty: the title usually means a neurologist or orthopedist focused on the spine. If a doctor has already brought up surgery, the next step is the list of neurosurgeons.

Where can I find a pediatric neurologist?

The directory gathers pediatric neurologists on a page of their own, which now lists 17 doctors: pediatric neurologists. If you would rather take your child to a neurologist from this list, ask the clinic beforehand if the doctor works with children.

How much does a neurologist consultation cost?

69 of the 147 neurologists in this list have a consultation price from the clinic’s price list on their pages, dated when the list was taken. For the other doctors, check the price with the clinic by phone.

How do I choose a neurologist?

Medaro does not rate doctors or recommend a particular one. Compare what the card lists — work experience, education, practice location, languages and the consultation price if there is one — and ask the clinic about what the page does not show, such as the earliest appointment date.

About this list

This list covers doctors whom Yerevan clinics name on their own websites: currently 147 doctors from 46 clinics. The list is incomplete and keeps growing; each card leads to a page with the practice location and the clinic’s phone number.

The districts with the most doctors on this list are Kentron (29), Erebuni (29), and Nor Nork (29). The list includes 121 women and 22 men — you can choose with the “Gender” filter.

Cards where the clinic lists experience, education or a consultation price come first, then the rest. Within each group, cards with a photo come first. This is not a ranking: places in the list are not for sale. How we collect and check information

Doctors of related specialties are in the list above.

Medaro is a directory: we do not make diagnoses or recommend a particular doctor. Information about doctors comes from clinic websites, and for some doctors from a saved copy of the site or a letter from the clinic; before your visit, check the appointment and the cost with the clinic.
