When to see an orthopedist or traumatologist

An orthopedist-traumatologist deals with injured bones, joints and ligaments — fractures, dislocations, sprains, torn menisci — and with problems that hurt or change shape without an injury: flat feet, a deformed big toe, scoliosis, knee or hip osteoarthritis. Most doctors here hold both specialties, so one doctor can see you after a fall and for long-standing joint pain. If your back hurts with no injury and the pain shoots down a leg, start with a neurologist; if joints swell on their own and morning stiffness lasts over half an hour, see a rheumatologist. Bring earlier X-rays or scans.

Frequently asked questions

Are a traumatologist and an orthopedist the same doctor?

A traumatologist handles fresh injuries and their aftermath; an orthopedist handles bone and joint conditions and deformities that develop without an injury, such as flat feet, scoliosis or osteoarthritis. Clinics usually list the same doctor as a “traumatologist-orthopedist”, which is why Medaro keeps traumatologists and orthopedists in one list.

Fresh injury: see a traumatologist at a clinic or go to an emergency room?

If you cannot put weight on the leg, see a deformity, the pain is severe or the head was hit, call 103 or go to a round-the-clock emergency room; phone numbers of the emergency rooms of major clinics are in the Emergency help section. Call ahead to make sure a traumatologist is on duty. If you can walk and the pain is bearable, book a doctor from this list. If in doubt, call 103.

Is there a pediatric orthopedist for flat feet and scoliosis?

There is no separate pediatric orthopedics category among the directory’s specialties. Whether a given orthopedist-traumatologist takes young patients, and from what age, is worth confirming by phone when you book. A pediatrician can also look at a child’s flat feet or posture first and say if an orthopedist is needed.

Are an orthopedist and an orthopedic dentist different doctors?

Yes. An orthopedic dentist (prosthodontist) makes crowns, bridges, dentures and implant-supported teeth — look for one among dentists. The doctors on this list work with bones and joints and do not treat teeth.

How much does an orthopedist or traumatologist appointment cost?

86 of the 145 doctors have an appointment price on their pages: a line from the clinic’s price list and the date it was taken. Ask the clinic about the cost of an X-ray or a cast, and about the appointment price of the other doctors.

About this list

This list covers doctors whom Yerevan clinics name on their own websites: currently 145 doctors from 28 clinics. The list is incomplete and keeps growing; each card leads to a page with the practice location and the clinic’s phone number. There are no such doctors from other Armenian cities in the directory yet.

The districts with the most doctors on this list are Kentron (47), Kanaker-Zeytun (36), and Erebuni (22). The list includes 2 women and 141 men — you can choose with the “Gender” filter.

Cards where the clinic lists experience, education or a consultation price come first, then the rest. Within each group, cards with a photo come first. This is not a ranking: places in the list are not for sale. How we collect and check information

Doctors of related specialties are in the list above.

Medaro is a directory: we do not make diagnoses or recommend a particular doctor. Information about doctors comes from clinic websites, and for some doctors from a saved copy of the site or a letter from the clinic; before your visit, check the appointment and the cost with the clinic.
