Where these neurosurgeons see patients

What a neurosurgeon does

A neurosurgeon is a surgeon of the nervous system, operating on the brain and spinal cord, the spine and the peripheral nerves. People come with a herniated disc or a narrowed spinal canal when pain and numbness do not let up, after head or spine injuries, or with a finding on a brain or spinal MRI that a doctor said a neurosurgeon should see. The usual path leads through a neurologist, and a rehabilitation specialist takes over recovery after surgery. Bring the MRI or CT images themselves, on a disc or as a link, not just the report, and any hospital discharge summaries.

Frequently asked questions

Neurologist or neurosurgeon — who should I see with a herniated disc?

Start with a neurologist: a herniated disc without warning signs is usually managed by one, and the referral to a neurosurgeon comes when surgery is being discussed. If back pain comes with numbness in the groin area or trouble passing urine, call 103; if a leg is quickly getting weaker, see a doctor urgently. For a first visit, see the list of neurologists.

Does a neurosurgeon only operate?

No. Many people see a neurosurgeon just for a consultation on their scans: the surgeon explains what the images show and whether surgery is called for or follow-up with a neurologist is enough. The decision to operate is made together with the patient, and before it you can show the scans to another neurosurgeon. To book a consultation, call the clinic — its number is on the doctor’s page.

Which Yerevan clinics have neurosurgeons?

The clinics with the most neurosurgeons on this list are Surb Grigor Lusavorich Medical Center (13), Erebuni Medical Center (8), and Astghik Medical Center (7). In total, the list covers 13 clinics; the full list with doctor counts is above, under “Where these neurosurgeons see patients”.

How much does a neurosurgeon consultation cost?

8 of the 50 neurosurgeons have a consultation price from the clinic’s price list on their pages, with the date the list was taken. For the others, ask the clinic, and ask separately about the cost of surgery.

Can I see a neurosurgeon without a referral?

Yes, if you pay yourself: private clinics in Yerevan let you book directly. For the state health insurance to pay, you need a referral from the family doctor or therapist (general practitioner) you are registered with: without the required referral, the service is provided on a paid basis, except in emergency or urgent cases. You can also go without a referral for a chronic condition if your family doctor has already made the diagnosis.

About this list

This list covers doctors whom Yerevan clinics name on their own websites: currently 50 doctors from 13 clinics. The list is incomplete and keeps growing; each card leads to a page with the practice location and the clinic’s phone number. There are no such doctors from other Armenian cities in the directory yet.

The districts with the most doctors on this list are Nor Nork (13), Erebuni (9), and Kanaker-Zeytun (7). The list includes 4 women and 46 men — you can choose with the “Gender” filter.

Cards where the clinic lists experience, education or a consultation price come first, then the rest. Within each group, cards with a photo come first. This is not a ranking: places in the list are not for sale. How we collect and check information

Doctors of related specialties are in the list above.

Medaro is a directory: we do not make diagnoses or recommend a particular doctor. Information about doctors comes from clinic websites; before your visit, check the appointment and the cost with the clinic.
