What a cardiologist does
A cardiologist looks after the heart and blood vessels: listens to the heart, reads your ECG and decides if a heart ultrasound, Holter monitoring or an exercise test is needed. People come with blood pressure that keeps reading high, skipped or racing beats, breathlessness on ordinary exertion, chest pain on walking that eases with rest, or high cholesterol. Once surgery has been mentioned, the next step is a cardiac surgeon; varicose veins and calf pain when walking are for a vascular surgeon. Bring your blood pressure and pulse diary, earlier ECGs and the names of your current medicines.
Frequently asked questions
Which symptoms are a reason to see a cardiologist, and when should I call 103?
Book a regular appointment for blood pressure that stays at 140/90 or higher on repeated readings, an irregular heartbeat, or breathlessness or chest pain on exertion that settles at rest. Call 103 without waiting if pressing or burning pain behind the breastbone lasts longer than 5–10 minutes, spreads to the left arm, jaw or back, or comes with shortness of breath, cold sweat or nausea, and for blood pressure of 180/120 or higher that does not come down.
Where can I get an ECG or a Holter monitor?
Many clinics record a standard ECG, often right at the cardiologist’s or general practitioner’s appointment. 24-hour ECG recording (Holter), 24-hour blood pressure monitoring and exercise tests are done by functional diagnostics specialists, who have their own list in the directory. Whether your chosen clinic does Holter or exercise testing, and at what price, is worth asking when you book.
Where do pediatric cardiologists see children?
Children’s hearts are looked after by pediatric cardiologists, who have a list of their own in the directory — it now has 25 doctors: pediatric cardiologists. Ask the clinic whether any of the adult cardiologists on this list also see children.
How much does a cardiologist appointment cost?
112 of the 312 cardiologists have an appointment price from the clinic’s price list on their page, dated when the list was taken; for the others, ask the clinic. When booking, ask whether an ECG taken during the visit is included in the appointment price.
How do I choose a cardiologist?
Medaro does not rate doctors or recommend a particular one. Compare what the card lists — work experience, education, practice location, languages and the consultation price if there is one — and ask the clinic about what the page does not show, such as the earliest appointment date.
About this list
This list covers doctors whom Yerevan clinics name on their own websites: currently 312 doctors from 54 clinics. The list is incomplete and keeps growing; each card leads to a page with the practice location and the clinic’s phone number.
The districts with the most doctors on this list are Kentron (76), Kanaker-Zeytun (65), and Erebuni (53). The list includes 215 women and 95 men — you can choose with the “Gender” filter.
Cards where the clinic lists experience, education or a consultation price come first, then the rest. Within each group, cards with a photo come first. This is not a ranking: places in the list are not for sale. How we collect and check information
Doctors of related specialties are in the list above.
Medaro is a directory: we do not make diagnoses or recommend a particular doctor. Information about doctors comes from clinic websites, and for some doctors from a saved copy of the site or a letter from the clinic; before your visit, check the appointment and the cost with the clinic.
