What a speech therapist does

A speech therapist corrects sounds, develops speech and its understanding, and works on the pace and fluency of speech, including stuttering. Parents bring children who started talking late, mispronounce sounds or find it hard to learn to read and write, and adults come to rebuild speech after a stroke, an injury or surgery. If speech lags along with other skills such as movement, play and communication, see a pediatric neurologist first, and if hearing is in doubt, an ENT doctor or audiologist. Bring any doctors’ reports and your child’s favorite book or toy — it helps get them talking.

Frequently asked questions

Is a speech therapist a doctor?

No, a speech therapist is a speech specialist, not a doctor: they do not prescribe medication or tests. When sessions alone are not enough, a speech therapist usually suggests a medical check with a pediatric neurologist or an ENT doctor.

Do speech therapists work with adults?

Yes: after a stroke, a head injury or surgery, a speech therapist helps adults regain speech and understanding, and also works on stuttering and the voice. After a stroke, sessions usually go alongside follow-up with a neurologist. Some of the directory’s speech therapists work in hospitals; ask the clinic whether a particular specialist works with children or adults.

Should a child’s hearing be checked if they speak poorly?

Yes, it is worth doing among the first steps: a child who does not hear well starts talking later and mixes up similar sounds. Hearing is checked by an ENT doctor or an audiologist, and in children, by a pediatric ENT; bring the report to the speech therapist.

Which Yerevan districts have speech therapists on this list?

Most speech therapists on this list work in Arabkir (7), Erebuni (4), and Nor Nork (3). Sessions with a child are usually regular, so use the “District” filter to find a place near home or kindergarten.

Which Yerevan clinics and hospitals have speech therapists?

The speech therapists on this list work at 11 medical facilities; the largest numbers are at "Arabkir" Joint Medical Center — Institute of Child and Adolescent Health (5), Erebuni Medical Center (3), and Astghik Medical Center (1). Other places where they see patients are in the “Where these speech therapists see patients” section above.

About this list

This list covers specialists whom Yerevan clinics name on their own websites: currently 17 specialists from 11 clinics. The list is incomplete and keeps growing; each card leads to a page with the practice location and the clinic’s phone number. There are no such specialists from other Armenian cities in the directory yet.

Cards where the clinic lists experience, education or a consultation price come first, then the rest. Within each group, cards with a photo come first. This is not a ranking: places in the list are not for sale. How we collect and check information

Doctors of related specialties are in the list above. Ask the clinic about the cost of a consultation: some clinics have their price list on their Medaro page.

Medaro is a directory: we do not make diagnoses or recommend a particular doctor. Information about doctors comes from clinic websites; before your visit, check the appointment and the cost with the clinic.
