What an orthodontist does and when to go
An orthodontist is a dentist who deals with the bite and the position of the teeth: they choose braces, aligners or removable plates and, in children, watch how the jaws grow and teeth change. People come with crooked or crowded teeth, gaps or a bad bite, and children are brought in when a pediatric dentist notices teeth coming in too early or too late. Decay and gums are checked by a general dentist before treatment, and when a bite cannot be corrected without jaw surgery, the orthodontist works on it together with a maxillofacial surgeon. Bring a panoramic dental X-ray if you have one.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between an orthodontist and a dentist?
An orthodontist is a dentist with a separate specialization: they usually do not fill or extract teeth but correct the bite and straighten the teeth. Usually you need both: the dentist checks and, if needed, treats your teeth before and during braces, while the orthodontist draws up the plan, fits the appliance and follows you until treatment ends.
Does state health insurance pay for braces?
No: state insurance does not pay for orthodontic treatment, braces included, for adults or for children. For a child under 18 it pays only for an orthodontist consultation on referral from a pediatric dentist, if teeth are coming in too early or too late or there are bite problems. Which Yerevan clinics offer this consultation under the insurance is covered in the article on dental care and state insurance.
Which Yerevan clinics have orthodontists?
Orthodontists on this list work at 8 Yerevan clinics; most of them are at AVANTA (2), Wigmore Clinic (2), and Ajapnyak Dental Clinic (1). Ask when booking whether the clinic offers braces or aligners and whether the orthodontist sees children.
How much do an orthodontist consultation and braces cost?
1 of the 10 orthodontists on this list has a consultation price from the clinic’s price list on their page, dated when the list was taken. The cost of braces or aligners depends on the treatment plan: the orthodontist gives it after an examination and X-rays, and you can compare price lines in clinic price lists on their Medaro pages.
About this list
This list covers doctors whom Yerevan clinics name on their own websites: currently 10 doctors from 8 clinics. The list is incomplete and keeps growing; each card leads to a page with the practice location and the clinic’s phone number. There are no such doctors from other Armenian cities in the directory yet.
The list includes 7 women and 3 men — you can choose with the “Gender” filter.
Cards where the clinic lists experience, education or a consultation price come first, then the rest. Within each group, cards with a photo come first. This is not a ranking: places in the list are not for sale. How we collect and check information
Doctors of related specialties are in the list above.
Medaro is a directory: we do not make diagnoses or recommend a particular doctor. Information about doctors comes from clinic websites; before your visit, check the appointment and the cost with the clinic.
