What a maxillofacial surgeon does

A maxillofacial surgeon operates in the mouth, on the jaws and on the face: they remove difficult wisdom teeth and deal with jaw and cheekbone fractures, cysts, salivary glands and bone grafting before implants. Fillings and simple extractions are for a dentist, straightening teeth for an orthodontist, and cosmetic surgery on the nose or eyelids for a plastic surgeon. Clicking and pain in the jaw joint that spread to the ear call for a visit to this surgeon or a dentist if an ENT doctor found nothing in the ear. Bring a panoramic X-ray or jaw CT scan and notes from past operations.

Frequently asked questions

Wisdom tooth removal — a dental surgeon or a maxillofacial surgeon?

Start with a dentist: they will look at the tooth, send you for an X-ray if needed and decide whether it can come out in an ordinary dental chair. Extractions, difficult ones included, are usually done by a dental surgeon; if the tooth sits deep in the bone, grows sideways or lies close to a nerve, you may be referred to a maxillofacial surgeon. If your cheek is swollen and you have a fever, or it is hard to open your mouth or swallow, do not wait for an appointment — call 103.

Is there a pediatric maxillofacial surgeon?

Pediatric maxillofacial surgeons are not listed separately in the directory, so check with the clinic whether a particular surgeon from this list works with children. With a child’s teeth, families usually start with a pediatric dentist, who will decide whether a surgeon is needed. An injury to a child’s face or jaw needs urgent care, and if bleeding does not stop, call 103.

Which Yerevan clinics have maxillofacial surgeons?

Maxillofacial surgeons on this list see patients at 25 Yerevan clinics, most of them at these: Mikayelyan Institute of Surgery (15), "Heratsi" University Hospital Complex No. 1 (9), and Surb Grigor Lusavorich Medical Center (9). If you need an operation, ask when booking whether it is done at the same clinic and whether you will need to stay in hospital.

How much do a maxillofacial surgeon consultation and wisdom tooth removal cost?

32 of the 100 maxillofacial surgeons on this list have a consultation price from the clinic’s price list on their page, dated when the list was taken. Wisdom tooth removal and operations are separate lines in the clinic’s price list on its page, and the surgeon will give the exact amount after an examination and an X-ray.

About this list

This list covers doctors whom Yerevan clinics name on their own websites: currently 100 doctors from 25 clinics. The list is incomplete and keeps growing; each card leads to a page with the practice location and the clinic’s phone number. There are no such doctors from other Armenian cities in the directory yet.

The districts with the most doctors on this list are Kentron (27), Kanaker-Zeytun (24), and Nor Nork (17). The list includes 18 women and 81 men — you can choose with the “Gender” filter.

Cards where the clinic lists experience, education or a consultation price come first, then the rest. Within each group, cards with a photo come first. This is not a ranking: places in the list are not for sale. How we collect and check information

Doctors of related specialties are in the list above.

Medaro is a directory: we do not make diagnoses or recommend a particular doctor. Information about doctors comes from clinic websites, and for some doctors from a saved copy of the site or a letter from the clinic; before your visit, check the appointment and the cost with the clinic.
