What an andrologist does

An andrologist is usually a urologist who focuses on men’s health: erections and sex drive, male infertility, the prostate, varicocele, and pain or swelling in the scrotum. Stones, cystitis and urine tests are any urologist’s job, while men come to an andrologist about sexual function or conception; when a couple cannot conceive, the man’s tests start with a semen analysis. With sudden, severe pain in a testicle, call 103 straight away. If you have had a semen analysis or a scrotal or prostate ultrasound, bring the results and note which medicines you take regularly.

What is the difference between an andrologist and a urologist?

Andrology is the branch of urology about men’s health: erections, fertility, the prostate and the genitals. A urologist also deals with the kidneys and bladder in patients of any sex. In the directory, clinics list almost every andrologist as a urologist too, so if in doubt about whom to book, open the broader list of urologists.
