What an endocrinologist does

An endocrinologist deals with the glands that make hormones — the thyroid, adrenals and pituitary — and with how the body handles blood sugar. People come with an abnormal TSH, thyroid nodules or an enlarged thyroid on ultrasound, high blood sugar or diabetes, sudden weight gain or loss with no clear reason, or excess facial hair in women. Hair loss usually goes to a dermatologist first and irregular periods to a gynecologist; they refer on if the cause looks hormonal. Bring earlier hormone and blood sugar results, your thyroid ultrasound report and home glucose readings, if you keep them.

Frequently asked questions

Thyroid problems: endocrinologist or surgeon?

Start with an endocrinologist, who deals with TSH and other thyroid hormones, nodules and goiter and decides whether you need monitoring, a repeat ultrasound or a nodule biopsy. You can have the thyroid ultrasound with ultrasound specialists; a surgeon only comes in if the endocrinologist thinks an operation is needed.

Which test results should I bring to an endocrinologist?

Your earlier results: TSH and other thyroid hormones, fasting glucose, HbA1c — they show the doctor how your levels have changed. The endocrinologist orders new tests after the exam; lab prices for TSH and HbA1c are compared under Lab tests.

Is there a pediatric endocrinologist?

The Medaro directory does not keep pediatric endocrinology as a separate list, so doctors whose title says “pediatric endocrinologist” are here, among endocrinologists. Confirm with the clinic when booking that a given doctor sees children; if it is unclear whether your child needs an endocrinologist at all, start by showing them to a pediatrician.

How much does an endocrinologist appointment cost?

An appointment price from the clinic’s price list is shown for 53 of the 146 endocrinologists, on the doctor’s page with the date the list was taken; for the rest, the clinic will tell you. Lab prices for hormone tests are listed separately, in the Lab tests section.

Which endocrinologists see patients in Russian or English?

Consultation languages are listed for 28 endocrinologists in this list: Russian for 27, English for 25. Tick the language in the “Consultation language” filter to keep only those doctors; for the other endocrinologists, ask the clinic.

About this list

This list covers doctors whom Yerevan clinics name on their own websites: currently 146 doctors from 56 clinics. The list is incomplete and keeps growing; each card leads to a page with the practice location and the clinic’s phone number.

The districts with the most doctors on this list are Kentron (40), Erebuni (25), and Arabkir (22). The list includes 137 women and 3 men — you can choose with the “Gender” filter.

Cards where the clinic lists experience, education or a consultation price come first, then the rest. Within each group, cards with a photo come first. This is not a ranking: places in the list are not for sale. How we collect and check information

Doctors of related specialties are in the list above.

Medaro is a directory: we do not make diagnoses or recommend a particular doctor. Information about doctors comes from clinic websites, and for some doctors from a saved copy of the site or a letter from the clinic; before your visit, check the appointment and the cost with the clinic.
