- 16organisations in Yerevan perform mammograms on referral at the fund's tariff (register as of 30 September 2026); the fund lists 7 screening sites in the city
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a good moment to work out where to have a mammogram in Yerevan and what it costs. There are three routes, each with its own rules and its own list of places.
- Screening — if you have no complaints. According to the fund: for women aged 45–68, once every 2 years, free and without a referral, but only for those who are insured and registered with a polyclinic. It is done by 11 organisations across the country, 7 of them in Yerevan. To find out who is insured in 2026, see Medaro's State insurance page or call the fund on 8866.
- On a doctor's referral — if you have complaints or a doctor has ordered the examination. According to the fund's register, the fund pays the clinic 10,000 ֏ for such a mammogram, and an insured patient with a referral pays nothing extra. As of 30 September 2026, 28 organisations have this tariff, 16 of them in Yerevan.
- Paying at the cash desk — if you have no insurance or no referral. According to clinic price lists, a standard mammogram costs 6,000 to 10,000 ֏ per examination (at Slavmed, 15,000 ֏ per single image), 3D mammography (tomosynthesis) 15,000 to 30,000 ֏, and contrast-enhanced mammography 30,000 to 60,000 ֏. The lowest contrast price is Erebuni's, but the Russian version of its price list describes these 30,000 ֏ as the cost of the contrast agent, added to the price of the service; check the total.
Screening: free for the insured, with no complaints and no referral
Screening mammography is part of the universal health insurance package. According to the fund (uhif.am, breast cancer screening page, opened on 30 September 2026), it is intended for women aged 45–68 without symptoms, is done once every 2 years on a digital mammography device and takes 15–20 minutes on average. In some cases, the fund says, a biopsy may be needed straight away.
No referral is needed for screening. In its explanations on universal health insurance (answer 7, published on newsarmenia.am on 19 January 2026), the Ministry of Health lists the cases in which an insured person receives care without going to their family doctor, and screening examinations are among them. But screening is not free for everyone: under Decision 1979-N (annex 1, point 20), screenings are provided to insured people who are registered with a primary care doctor at their polyclinic. And not everyone is insured yet in 2026. Under the law on universal health insurance (HO-459-N, articles 11 and 45), employees earning up to 200,000 ֏ join only from 2027, and a woman under 65 who does not work is insured only if she belongs to one of the subsidised groups — for example, if she has a disability or her family is recognised as low-income. Find your group on Medaro's State insurance page and check your status in ArMed or on the fund's number 8866.
Addresses and phone numbers of the screening sites are on the fund's page. According to the fund, screening mammography cannot be performed on:
- pregnant and breastfeeding women;
- women who have undergone a diagnostic mammography within the last 12 months;
- women with obvious symptoms of breast cancer (in this case, a diagnostic mammography is indicated — on a doctor's referral, see below);
- women diagnosed with breast cancer whose treatment ended less than 5 years ago.

List and addresses: the fund's page uhif.am/en/screenings/breast-cancer, opened on 30 September 2026; Yerevan first, then the regions. The last column shows whether the organisation has the fund's tariff for mammography on referral, according to the fund's register on the same date. The order of the rows is not a ranking. Names of organisations outside Yerevan are as the fund gives them in English.
On a doctor's referral: the fund pays 10,000 ֏, the insured patient pays nothing
If you have complaints, or a doctor thinks the examination is needed, you get a diagnostic mammogram — on referral. Decision 1979-N (annex 1, point 27, subpoint 3) does not pay for examinations done without medical indications and without a referral, including those done at the patient's own wish, or for visits by people who are not registered with a primary care doctor. Mammography appears twice in the list of reimbursable examinations (same decision, annex 6). According to the fund's register as of 30 September 2026, the fund pays the clinic 10,000 ֏ for each of the two, and the insured patient's co-payment is 0 ֏ in every row. 28 organisations have this tariff: 16 in Yerevan and 12 in the regions.

The fund's register uhif.am/am/hospitals, read on 30 September 2026: codes 61611119 “Mammography” and 61611120 “Mammography, X-ray examination of the breast”, tariff 10,000 ֏, co-payment 0 ֏. Violeta has only the second item. Yerevan Garrison Hospital is a military institution; we have not checked whether it accepts civilians. Outside Yerevan, 12 organisations have the tariff: Shirak — Artik and Gyumri medical centres, ARS Akhuryan Mother and Child Health Center; Lori — Vanadzor Medical Center and Lorimed; Syunik — Kapan Medical Center and Zangezur Garrison Hospital; Gegharkunik — Martuni Medical Center and Gegharkunik Garrison Hospital; Vayots Dzor — Vayots Dzor Medical Center; Tavush — Tavush Medical Center; Armavir — Master Med. Names outside Yerevan are Medaro's translation unless the fund gives an English name. The order of the rows is not a ranking.
The two lists do not fully overlap. Of the seven screening sites in Yerevan, five also do mammography on referral: Astghik, Vardanants, the Fanarjian Oncology Center, Slavmed and Erebuni. The Armenian-American Health Center has no code for diagnostic mammography in the fund's register: it takes part in the programme as a screening site. Wigmore had the mammography tariff in the register according to our snapshot of 24 August 2026, but by 30 September 2026 it was gone; over the same period Artmed and the Oncology Center were added. The register changes, so check with the organisation itself before going there with a referral.
What a mammogram costs at the cash desk
Without a referral, you pay for the mammogram. We found the price of a standard mammogram per examination in three price lists: Yerevan State Medical University (one price list for Heratsi and Muratsan; check which of the two clinics does mammography), the Reproductive Health Institute and Surb Grigor Lusavorich. Slavmed's price list gives the price of a single image. The price lists of the Oncology Center and Erebuni have no standard mammogram: the Oncology Center lists mammography with tomosynthesis, Erebuni lists 3D mammography and contrast-enhanced mammography. Astghik lists tomosynthesis together with ultrasound, contrast mammography and a 50,000 ֏ package in which, according to the Armenian version of its price list, digital mammography and tomosynthesis come together with automated volumetric breast ultrasound (ABUS). The comparison with the fund's tariff can be surprising: according to the Reproductive Health Institute's price list, a mammogram at its cash desk costs 7,000 ֏ — less than the fund pays the same clinic for a mammogram on referral (10,000 ֏). But the price sheet in that file is dated 15 March 2023, so it is best to check the amount. At Surb Grigor Lusavorich the cash price and the tariff are the same — 10,000 ֏. The tariff is the fund's money paid to the clinic: an insured patient with a referral pays nothing.
| Organisation | Type | As in the price list | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Medical University: Heratsi and Muratsan | standard | Mammography | 6,000 ֏ |
| Reproductive Health Institute | standard | Mammography (price sheet dated 15 March 2023) | 7,000 ֏ |
| Surb Grigor Lusavorich | standard | Mammography | 10,000 ֏ |
| Slavmed | standard | Single-view mammographic image — price per image | 15,000 ֏ |
| Armenian-American Health Center | — | no price in open sources | ask the clinic |
| Vardanants, branch at 35/1 Hr. Kochar St. | — | Comprehensive mammography examination — 0 AMD in the price list; ask what this means | ask the clinic |
| National Center of Oncology named after V. A. Fanarjian | 3D (tomosynthesis) | Mammographic examination with tomosynthesis — for citizens of Armenia; 30,000 ֏ for foreigners | 15,000 ֏ |
| Erebuni | 3D (tomosynthesis) | Layered 3D mammography | 20,000 ֏ |
| Astghik | 3D + ultrasound | Tomosynthesis of the mammary glands + sonography | 20,000 ֏ |
| Astghik | 3D + ultrasound | Breast mammography + tomosynthesis (3D mammography + sonography) | 30,000 ֏ |
| Astghik | 3D + ultrasound (ABUS) | ABUS automated volumetric breast sonography (in the Armenian and English versions of the price list; by the Armenian version it also includes digital mammography, tomosynthesis and breast sonography) | 50,000 ֏ |
| Erebuni | with contrast | Contrast-enhanced mammography — so in the Armenian and English versions of the price list; the Russian version calls it “the cost of contrast… added to the price of the service”; check the total | 30,000 ֏ |
| Vardanants, branch at 35/1 Hr. Kochar St. | with contrast | Contrast-enhanced mammography | 40,000 ֏ |
| Astghik | with contrast | Contrast mammography | 60,000 ֏ |
Price lists opened on 30 September 2026, except Slavmed: its price was taken on 24 September 2026, and on 30 September we could not recheck the clinic's website. The Medical University price list is one file dated 6 July 2026 for both Heratsi and Muratsan. The Reproductive Health Institute's file is posted on its website as current; the file itself is dated 10 January 2025 and the X-ray price sheet 15 March 2023. Slavmed's price is per single-view image — ask the clinic how many images you will need. The Armenian-American Health Center publishes no mammography price, either on its website or on Spyur; on its website the centre says it uses digital mammography systems with tomosynthesis. At Vardanants, mammograms are done at the branch at 35/1 Hr. Kochar St.; in the Armenian version of the price list, the 0 AMD mammologist consultation is labelled as a screening one. Within each type, rows are in order of rising price. Price lists change — check the amount with the place you are going to before your visit.
3D mammography (tomosynthesis), contrast-enhanced mammography, breast MRI and breast ultrasound are different examinations. Which one you need is decided by a doctor, not by the price. According to the price lists, a breast MRI costs 80,000 ֏ at Erebuni and 130,000 ֏ at Astghik — both on 1.5 Tesla machines; ask whether contrast is included. Breast ultrasound in the same price lists costs 8,000 to 12,000 ֏: 8,000 ֏ at the Reproductive Health Institute; 10,000 ֏ at the Medical University, Erebuni and the Oncology Center (together with the regional areas); 12,000 ֏ at Astghik (15,000 ֏ with the head of the service) and 12,000 ֏ at Slavmed (together with the lymph nodes). There are also combinations: a mammogram together with an ultrasound costs 10,000 ֏ at the Medical University and 20,000 ֏ at Slavmed.
How to prepare
The fund advises you to “plan the mammogram for about a week after your menstrual cycle” and says that “when preparing for the examination, it is recommended to avoid using antiperspirants or deodorants in the underarm area”. The rest of its advice is on the fund's page. If the mammogram was ordered by a clinic, the clinic will tell you how to prepare.
What else the insurance covers for free — and why it matters before 2029
The same schedule in Decision 1979-N (annex 5) has two more checks that matter for women. An HPV test at ages 30, 35 … 60; the fund describes it as available to women aged 30–60, once every 5 years after a negative result. A preventive check-up once every 2 years from age 18 to 74 under the decision (the fund says up to 75): blood pressure, body mass index and, for women, a breast examination and training in self-examination.
It is better not to put prevention off. Under the law on universal health insurance (HO-459-N, article 46, part 7), in 2029 only those who received a preventive service in 2026–2028 (for example, a check-up with their family doctor) or signed up for one will be able to use the package. The procedure and conditions for preventive services are set by the authorised state body (same law, article 5, part 5); the condition does not apply to emergency and urgent care (article 5, part 4). Questions go to the fund's hotline, 8866.
When an article is not the answer — call 103
With these signs you do not look up prices or book a test; you call an ambulance.
- Tight or squeezing pain in the chest (behind the breastbone), or pain spreading to the arm, neck or jaw: according to the NHS, this means calling an ambulance straight away. Call 103 — do not wait for a mammogram and do not stop to check whether you are insured.
- Severe difficulty breathing: the person is gasping, choking or cannot get words out — call 103.
- The lips or skin have turned pale, blue or grey — call 103.
- Someone has passed out and is not responding — call 103.
