What a pediatric surgeon does
A pediatric surgeon examines and operates on children, from newborns to teenagers. Parents bring children with an inguinal or umbilical hernia, an ingrown toenail, abscesses, lumps under the skin or genital problems in boys, or on a pediatrician’s referral when stomach pain needs a surgeon’s look. Fractures and dislocations in children are seen by a traumatologist, while moles and warts go to a dermatologist first. Bring discharge notes from the maternity ward and earlier hospital stays, ultrasound reports and the vaccination record.
Frequently asked questions
Child with stomach pain: book a pediatric surgeon or call 103?
Call 103 if the pain is severe and does not ease, the vomiting keeps coming back, or the child is listless or refuses to drink. If the pain is bearable and comes and goes, a pediatrician is the first stop and will decide whether a pediatric surgeon should take a look. If in doubt, call anyway: the dispatcher will help you judge the situation, and emergency numbers are in the Emergency section.
Phimosis in a boy: a pediatric surgeon or a pediatric urologist?
Phimosis, an undescended testicle and a hydrocele in boys are seen by pediatric surgeons, and at some clinics by pediatric urologists. Pediatric urology is not a specialty of its own in the directory’s reference list: clinics list some pediatric surgeons as urologists as well, so you can also find them among the urologists.
My child has a planned operation: what should I ask the clinic?
Ask where the operation will take place and how many days your child will stay in hospital, what pain relief or anesthesia is used and who gives it, whether a parent can stay alongside, which tests to do in advance and what the price includes. If the clinic’s price list is published on Medaro, look for the operation there, and ask the surgeon about anything not listed.
Which pediatric surgeons see patients in Russian or English?
Languages are listed for 12 of the 25 pediatric surgeons: Russian for 12, English for 9. Choose a language in the “Consultation language” filter; for the other doctors, ask when booking.
Are there women among the pediatric surgeons?
Yes: of the 25 pediatric surgeons on this list, 4 are women and 21 are men. If your child feels calmer with a female doctor, choose “Female” in the “Gender” filter.
About this list
This list covers doctors whom Yerevan clinics name on their own websites: currently 25 doctors from 13 clinics. The list is incomplete and keeps growing; each card leads to a page with the practice location and the clinic’s phone number. There are no such doctors from other Armenian cities in the directory yet.
The districts with the most doctors on this list are Arabkir (10), Erebuni (9), and Kentron (3).
Cards where the clinic lists experience, education or a consultation price come first, then the rest. Within each group, cards with a photo come first. This is not a ranking: places in the list are not for sale. How we collect and check information
Doctors of related specialties are in the list above. Ask the clinic about the cost of a consultation: some clinics have their price list on their Medaro page.
Medaro is a directory: we do not make diagnoses or recommend a particular doctor. Information about doctors comes from clinic websites; before your visit, check the appointment and the cost with the clinic.
