From Yerevan to Germany: Argine Azatyan-Ernert's journey

Argine Azatyan-Ernert's path into plastic surgery began in Yerevan. Her career history here is based on her profile on the practice's website and the doctors' interview with the local newspaper; her titles are taken from public registers. While still a student, she joined the research group of the plastic surgery department at the university hospital. In 2005 she graduated from Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi; from 2005 to 2009 she completed her residency at the university's Centre for Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Surgery, and in 2009 she qualified as a specialist. This was followed by a fellowship in paediatric plastic surgery at the Arabkir Medical Centre (2010) and a post at a practice in Yerevan (2013–2014).

She also gained experience abroad. In 2004 and 2006 she trained at the Center of Central Georgia, a medical centre in Macon, Georgia, USA: first as a student and then as a resident, by which time her focus was on plastic surgery. It was then that she met her first mentor, Dr. Roy Powell. In 2008 came a Smile Network project on cleft lip and palate surgery. In 2013 and 2014 she held fellowships at the university hospitals of Freiburg and Innsbruck, and in 2014 the European Association of Plastic Surgeons (EURAPS) awarded her its Young Plastic Surgeons Scholarship: in the list of recipients, her name is listed with “Yerevan, Armenia”.

A milestone in its own right came on 23 November 2012, when she passed the European board examination and was awarded the FEBOPRAS title. According to the public EBOPRAS register, she is the first and so far the only holder of the title trained in Armenia: as of 15 October 2026, of the register's 1,963 entries (examinations since 1994), Armenia appears only in hers.

In 2015 she obtained her licence to practise medicine in Germany and continued her training at German hospitals in Neubrandenburg (2015) and Pasewalk (2016). From 2016 to 2021 she worked in the department of plastic and aesthetic surgery at the municipal hospital in Görlitz; in 2020 the Saxon State Chamber of Physicians recognised her as a specialist; this was already the third specialist examination she had passed. Then came a Vivantes hospital and private practices in Berlin (2021–2023), and, since 2024, her own practice with Dr. med. Carsten Ernert (Dr. med. is a German doctoral degree in medicine).

The story also has a personal side: as the doctors told the local newspaper Stadt Gazette in an interview (30 November 2025), they are a married couple and plan operations together. In Armenia, Argine Azatyan-Ernert took part in a humanitarian mission with Rox Anderson, a professor at Harvard Medical School: the mission used a fractional CO2 laser to treat severe scars, and she learned to use it from Anderson.

Doctors at Clinica Bellarte: education, credentials, experience

Both doctors at the practice are specialists in plastic and aesthetic surgery: each holds the German specialist title, both are members of the German Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (DGPRÄC), and Argine Azatyan-Ernert also holds the European FEBOPRAS title. Between them, they have worked in hospitals in Armenia, Germany and Switzerland and trained in other countries.

Dr. med. Carsten Ernert graduated from Goethe University Frankfurt in 2002 and started out in Swiss hospitals in Chur and Ilanz (2003–2006); he names Privatdozent Dr. de Roche of Basel as his mentor in plastic surgery. Next came Cologne (2006–2008) and the Bergmannstrost hospital in Halle (2008–2014): plastic surgery, hand surgery and the burns centre, taking on senior physician duties from 2011. He also worked as a senior physician in Lucerne, Offenbach and Berlin-Spandau (until 2021). He earned his Dr. med. with a 2024 dissertation on closing defects of the sternum (breastbone) with a latissimus dorsi muscle flap.

He took part in humanitarian missions to Bangladesh (2011, 2014) and worked in the Seychelles in 2015. His areas of focus are aesthetic breast surgery, hand surgery and body contouring.

If you are choosing a plastic surgery clinic in Germany, you can check a surgeon's credentials yourself: DGPRÄC membership in the society's directory and the FEBOPRAS title in the open EBOPRAS register.

The practice in Bad Nauheim: how it works and where operations take place

Despite the word “Clinica” in its name, Clinica Bellarte is not a hospital but a private practice: a partnership of two doctors founded in 2024. According to the practice's own description, it is housed in a historic villa on Bad Nauheim's main road, within walking distance of the railway station and the spa park.

Minor outpatient procedures are performed in the practice's operating theatre, while operations that require an overnight stay take place at the Berger Klinik in Frankfurt. According to the practice, the two doctors plan every treatment together, following the “four-eyes principle”, and personally look after patients from the consultation through to follow-up; after a procedure, the practice can be reached around the clock, and every patient is given the number of its 24-hour emergency line.

Operations and treatments: what the practice offers and what it costs

The practice's website has 40 procedure pages in 11 sections. The areas include:

  • breast: augmentation, lift, reduction;
  • body: liposuction, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), thigh, upper arm and buttock lifts, body lift;
  • face: blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), brow and neck lifts;
  • intimate surgery;
  • plastic surgery for men: gynaecomastia correction, abdominoplasty, liposuction, facial treatments;
  • hand surgery;
  • botulinum toxin, hyaluronic acid, thread lifts, biostimulators;
  • treatment for excessive sweating, including miraDry microwave treatment for the underarms (according to the practice, the procedure is not yet offered in Armenia);
  • vitamin and amino acid infusions.

The table below is not a guide to average plastic surgery prices in Germany but one practice's price list; anaesthesia and an overnight hospital stay are often charged separately.

What patients say

As of 7 October 2026, the practice has a rating of 5.0 on Google Maps from 23 reviews, all of them five-star; the owner of the listing has replied to 11. On Crisalix, a 3D simulation platform, it is rated 4.8 out of 5, with 14 published reviews (13 five-star, one four-star) since March 2025. A “verified” label there means that the platform has confirmed the reviewer's identity, not the outcome of treatment. Recurring themes in the reviews, in our own words:

  • a thorough consultation without pressure, including a discussion of options and risks;
  • patients are looked after by the doctors themselves, and several reviews mention both of them;
  • calm, attractive surroundings;
  • 3D simulation helps patients discuss options and choose an implant;
  • sensitivity to patients' anxiety about the procedure;
  • the reviews cover operations, injections and sweating treatment alike.

Consultations are held in German, English, Russian and Armenian: Argine Azatyan-Ernert consults in Armenian, so a patient from Armenia will not need an interpreter. Anyone looking for a Russian-speaking plastic surgeon in Germany will also find it easier: Russian is on the practice’s list of consultation languages.

From Armenia, the easiest way to start is an email to info@clinicabellarte.de: in its FAQ, the practice itself suggests booking by email too. In your email you can discuss the consultation in advance — its cost, suitable dates and times — and ask anything that matters for the trip. You can also book through the form on the website or by phone; in your request, the practice asks you to say which days of the week suit you and whether you prefer mornings or afternoons. This is a private practice: it does not currently accept German statutory health insurance, while private insurance, the practice says, may cover the costs depending on the procedure and the policy. If you are insured in Armenia, ask your insurance company.

How long you need to stay in Germany depends on the procedure. According to the procedure pages, eyelid surgery is done on an outpatient basis, a thigh lift is followed by one night in hospital, and an abdominoplasty by one or two. The UK's National Health Service (NHS) points out that the risk of a blood clot (thrombosis) is higher after surgery and on long journeys, and that a clot can still form several weeks later, so discuss the date of your flight home with your surgeon. Before you travel, ask the practice:

  • how many days to stay nearby and how many check-ups there will be;
  • how follow-up will work once you are back in Armenia;
  • which test results and documents to bring;
  • which language will be used for correspondence and the consultation;
  • what the price includes: anaesthesia, overnight stay, follow-up visits.
