What a hematologist does
A hematologist deals with diseases of the blood and blood-forming organs — conditions that change the make-up of the blood or affect how it clots. Most people come on the advice of their GP or their child’s pediatrician, with test results in hand, and the GP usually handles low hemoglobin caused by a lack of iron. Bring your earlier blood counts sorted by date and any hospital discharge papers, and tell the doctor which medicines you are taking now.
Frequently asked questions
What are people referred to a hematologist for?
Most often for changes in a complete blood count: markedly low or high hemoglobin, abnormal white cells or platelets, and bruising or bleeding that appears for no obvious reason. If you have such a result but no referral, show it to a GP first (for a child, to the pediatrician): some changes have simple explanations.
What is the difference between a hematologist and an oncologist?
A hematologist deals with blood diseases in general, from anemia to clotting disorders, while an oncologist focuses on tumors of various organs. Tumors of the blood-forming system lie where the two specialties meet, so for some doctors the clinic lists both — you will find their cards among the oncologists as well. Pediatric hematologist-oncologists are included here too: the directory does not split them off into a separate list.
Where do hematologists see patients in Yerevan?
The hematologists on this list work at 2 clinics; most of them are at "Yeolyan" Hematology and Oncology Center of MoH of RA (47) and Maternity Hospital of Erebouni Medical Center (1). Phone the clinic listed on the doctor’s card to ask how to book a consultation and which tests to bring.
How much does a hematologist consultation cost?
No hematologist in this list has a consultation price from a clinic price list yet: ask the clinic’s front desk about the cost and how to book.
Can I see a hematologist without a referral?
Yes, if you pay yourself: private clinics in Yerevan let you book directly. For the state health insurance to pay, you need a referral from the family doctor or therapist (general practitioner) you are registered with: without the required referral, the service is provided on a paid basis, except in emergency or urgent cases. You can also go without a referral for a chronic condition if your family doctor has already made the diagnosis.
About this list
This list covers doctors whom Yerevan clinics name on their own websites: currently 48 doctors from 2 clinics. The list is incomplete and keeps growing; each card leads to a page with the practice location and the clinic’s phone number. There are no such doctors from other Armenian cities in the directory yet.
The list includes 35 women and 12 men — you can choose with the “Gender” filter.
Cards where the clinic lists experience, education or a consultation price come first, then the rest. Within each group, cards with a photo come first. This is not a ranking: places in the list are not for sale. How we collect and check information
Doctors of related specialties are in the list above.
Medaro is a directory: we do not make diagnoses or recommend a particular doctor. Information about doctors comes from clinic websites; before your visit, check the appointment and the cost with the clinic.
